The Adriano Community Days are a widespread festival in the Adriano district: two days of events organised and implemented directly by the associations in the area and its inhabitants. Culture, community and well-being are the three keywords of the event.
How can we activate the communities in Milan’s Adriano district, involving them in a regeneration process in which they play a leading role and bring out the creative potential of the inhabitants?
In order to activate the inhabitants of Adriano and the associations in the area, we planned a two-day festival in which the various souls of the neighbourhood could find space. Through an open call we collected ideas and projects to be realised during the Festival, thus mapping the creative energies of Adriano. We then constructed the Festival programme, consisting of 63 events in 20 spaces in the neighbourhood, with 24 associations involved.
For the Call for Ideas, we provided a dedicated online platform on which citizens, groups, and associations uploaded their activity proposals. The open call, open for one month, was accompanied by creative co-design workshops to support the participants.
The palimpsest construction phase was flanked by the development of the event’s online and offline communication strategy and the coordination of the press offices; the development of the graphic identity; the design and organisation of the launch event; and the management of relations between all the project partners.

The packed schedule of events showed a neighbourhood that is eager to act and enthusiastically discuss its evolution. The activities attracted audiences of different ages, backgrounds and interests, generating cultural and intergenerational exchange. With the Adriano Neighbourhood Festival we mapped the neighbourhood’s energies, drawing up a stakeholder map and prototypes of services that can be replicated in the neighbourhood and in the Adriano Community Centre, a hybrid model of community hub and assisted living residence to be opened in Adriano in spring 2020.
